Enjoy Again Your Old Photos on Canvas Prints

ExtraPrints.com are happy to announce that we are now creating perfect canvas prints from your old photos, negatives or slides. This means that it’s not just photos caught by a digital camera that you can turn into a personalised canvas print. Using specialised scanning equipment and state-of-the-art software we can re-vitalise your old photos. Our scanning equipment means that every detail of your old photo is captured and stored in a digital image file that we can then enhance and repair.

Simply download and fill-out our postal order form here. Our software allows us to fix anything from small blemishes and fading, to tears and scratches. The software also corrects colour fading due to age. We will restore most photos for free, but depending on the extent of the damage there may be an extra charge, which we will advise. A proof will be sent by email to show you what the final canvas print will look like before printing starts. We know your photos are precious so will ensure they are returned with your canvas print.

All paper photos fade over time, don’t lose them. Let us bring them back to their full glory by creating a canvas print. Canvas prints will last a lot longer than paper photos, if cared for correctly.

Vintage images are the “new thing” now, so why not create a stunning centre-piece by using your own vintage photos or turn your childhood photos into unique personalised gift for your loved ones.

Caring for Your Photo on Canvas Print

Photo to canvas prints, if manufactured correctly, should last a lifetime. Normal photos fade over time and photos printed onto photo paper have an even shorter lifespan. Taking adequate care of your photo canvas print will ensure you print will remain vibrant, fresh and damage-free. This is a list of the 5 most important considerations in caring for your canvas print.

  1. Manufacturer – Of course we are going to be biased, but we believe our canvas prints are the best in the business. We ensure that every customer is satisfied and are so committed to customer satisfaction that we offer a 100% no-quibble guarantee. Beware of inferior manufacturers, who may offer canvases printed onto a canvas/poly composite. This material is cheaper and will not last as long as 100% cotton canvas. We only use manufacturers own ink with our printers. Compatible ink is available, but again this will not last as long as genuine manufacturers ink. The wooden frame is very important in the lifespan of your canvas print. We only use genuine stretcher frames which are specially manufactured for stretching canvas. Some manufacturers use plain wood with mitred corners. These frames will eventually deteriorate due to the stresses imposed with the stretched canvas.
  2. Location – When hanging your canvas print avoid areas where it will be exposed to direct sunlight. UV rays will cause your canvas print to fade over time. We now coat every canvas with a special UV, fade and scratch resistant coating which will add more life to your canvas, but we would still recommend avoiding direct sunlight. Sources of heat will also cause damage to the wooden frame, so avoid hanging your canvas print over fireplaces or radiators.
  3. Atmosphere – Ensure you hang your canvas print in a dry atmosphere. Too much moisture will cause your canvas to absorb water , which will lead to sagging  and distortion. This doesn’t mean you can’t hang a canvas print in your bathroom. You just need to be careful that the atmosphere is not too damp or humid.
  4. Cleaning – Canvas prints do not need to be cleaned any more regularly than any other item of furniture in your home. However it will need to be cleaned carefully to prevent damage. Dust your canvas print using a dry cloth or small brush. Do not run too hard, but you can use a damp cloth that has been thoroughly wrung out if your canvas has been coated with our special coating.
  5. Storing – If you intend to move or store your canvas ensure that it is carefully wrapped to prevent damage. For transport we wrap every canvas in brown paper then bubble wrap. When storing your canvas it is better to be left upright to prevent anything heavy being placed on top of it. If over time your canvas looses it tightness and begins to sag then by gently hammering the corner wedges the canvas will return to its original tightness.

Canvas prints make a wonderful addition to any home, and if cared for correctly should continue to give pleasure for many, many years.

Is my photo suitable for a canvas print?

Want to know if your photo will be suitable for a canvas print? We can show you. Our unique software calculates the amount of pixels in your photo and determines the maximum size of canvas print. Pixels (short for picture element) are tiny dots which make up every digital image. The amount of pixels in an image will determine how much the image can be enlarged without losing it’s clarity. You can upload your photos here and our canvas creation page will show the maximum canvas size using your image.

Our software calculates the amount of pixels your image has while it is being uploaded. We already know what the minimum amount of pixels are required to create each of our canvases, so we can limit the choice of canvas sizes to ones that will produce perfect prints.

We also check every photo for focus clarity before printing. Unfortunatley no matter how many pixels your image has, if it is out-of-focus, the canvas will be out-of-focus. We have specialised software which can correct minor issues but if we feel that the image is unsuitable we will contact you.

If you would like our opinion on an image you can email it to us at sales@extraprints.com and we will advise if it is suitable for a canvas print
